Tom is by big brother who I mentioned previously who just made the big move to NYC. He took on a job as a line cook at the Blaue Gans after finishing school at the CIA. This is what he had to say about restaurants in New York City...
"Due to the student budget I've been living on the last two years, I have very little experience with fancy New York restaurants. But here are the places I have eaten and liked (in no particular order).
-Bouley (45$ five course lunch tasting menu is very affordable for a two michelin star restaurant)
-Pastis (incredible sunday brunch- loud and fun)
-Blaue Gans (great atmosphere, authentic austrian food cooked by me*)
-L&B Spumoni Gardens(best pizza on earth, worth the trip to Brooklyn)
My favorite New York eating experience actually took place in Koreatown. I have no idea what the name of the place is, mostly because they have no signs, but it's easy to find. On the southwest corner of fifth avenue and west 32nd street there is a door facing fifth avenue that leads into a building with no evidence of a restaurant. At the end of the hall a staircase to the left takes you to the second floor where you will find some of the best hot wings, music, service, atmosphere (I could go on) you'll ever experience. Expensive of course, but so worth it.
*I'm not the chef, just a line-cook, so if you want to say hi ask for Thomas."
