Union Square and the Cable Cars
I'm doing these two together because Union Square is where we go to hop on the Powell-Hyde Cable Car line which takes you to Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and Alcatraz. The turnaround to board the car is actually 3 blocks down at Powell and Market Streets. We stay up by the airport, so we take the BART to Powell street to begin our adventure. Union Square is not necessarily an attraction, but if you are a shopper like myself, get ready for something amazing. Can you say, Sak's, Macy's, Tiffany's, Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus...you get the point. These stores are fantastic too. They are all huge. After doing some shopping, get ready for a fun ride. The line for the Cable Cars is right on Market and Powell street, but my husband and I always find it funner to walk up a couple of blocks and wait at one of the stops without a line. We have actually ended up walking all the way to Fisherman's Wharf and then riding the cars back, because we found the walk to be so fascinating.
