I am always hesitant to do restaurants in these cities I don't know much about because I know I am missing some true hidden classics that only the locals know about, but I'll try to do my best.
1. Aliotos - This one is my #1 because it is the only upscale seafood restaurant that I have personally experienced in San Francisco. Located right on Fisherman's Wharf, Aliotos is a three generation family owned Sicilian restaurant which used fresh local seafood in it's recipes. I chose the fresh salmon with mango salsa and it was fantastic. The views were fantastic and the atmosphere was great.
2. Trattoria Contadina - This is an Italian Restaurant located on Mason Street. This is one of Samantha Brown's top 10 restaurants of all time. The menu sounds yummy and the prices aren't all that bad.
3. Little Star Pizza - I don't know if I'd be looking for pizza in a city that serves fresh seafood, but this place is at the top of the list on most review charts and I'm sure it's something the kids would love.
4. Chow - This casual dining cafe is supposedly one of the local favs. Sorry they don't have a website.
5. Ella's - Another local favorite for a fine American breakfast.
6. Alamo Square Seafood Grill - I had to add one more seafood restaurant because that's what I would focus on in San Francisco and this one was featured in Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels so it should be pretty good.
7. Oriental Pearl Restaurant - Located in Chinatown, Oriental Pearl is know for the best Dim Sum in San Francisco. I love pot stickers so I'm told I need to try dim sum.
